Tigranes VI was the great-grandson of Herod the Great and son of Alexander (Gaius Julius Alexander), brother of Tigranes V. Tigranes was made king by Nero. His son Alexander (Gaius Julius Alexander II) married Julia Iotapa a Commagenian princess and the daughter of King Antiochus IV of Commagene in Rome. Nero crowned Alexander and Iotapa as Roman client monarchs of Cetis, a small region in Cilicia, which was previously ruled by Antiochus IV of Commagene.
